Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Too bad it’s not possible to tell the political affiliation of those who left. My guess is at least 75% Republican. Democrats should be happy. Soon there will not be a single Republican left in IL. Everyone I know that left IL would vote Republican, myself included. Those who remain can enjoy the consequences of being a totally blue progressive state with massive debts, high unemployment, loss of businesses, and reliance on gambling, cannabis, and abortion for revenue.
