Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
I dislike name calling but our governor is the village idiot. He should concentrate on more important issues like fixing his toilets!
Ah yes, the classic Illinois playbook — dust it off, run it again: Step 1: Raise taxes. Step 2: Hand the loot to government unions who keep the machine greased. Step 3: Blame Trump, the weather, or ancient Roman fiscal policy — anyone but themselves. Meanwhile, the working taxpayer gets to watch their paycheck shrink, their property taxes climb, and their kids move to Indiana for a shot at sanity. It’s a beautiful racket — if you’re in on it. For everyone else? It’s pay, pray, and pack. Until voters stop rewarding this endless cycle of greed, corruption, and finger-pointing, Illinois will continue its slow bleed — one tax… Read more »
Nay nay! Let the tithing be done with joy and gladness! Rejoice! Rejoice and be glad as the political animals take away your money and give it to the Climate Clerics and those who serve them. Let us be thankful for the tithing the Clergy does right back to the political animals whose devotion is an example to us all. Smile and sing as the electric company, in complete adherence to the tenets of the Religion of Climate, raises our rates to the heavens. Is it too early to nominate Cardinal Michael Mann for sainthood? Climate Cleric computer models be… Read more »
In Illinois politics, it’s much more important to blame someone else than to try to fix the problem.
The only answer Democrats offer to any crisis is higher taxes — a tired reflex that drains the people while solving nothing. Unless voters wake up and change course now, the state will plunge further into a darkness from which it may never return.
JB must not have read the report before he ran his mouth. The increase is due to “decarbonization policies”– which is, duh, solar and wind. That is exactly what JB has been pushing for. You really gotta’ hand it to the guy. He gets away with saying the most blatant fabrications and the media doesn’t touch him
Per the article: “Asked about expanding nuclear generation in Illinois, Pritzker said he’s for it. ““I’ve been its greatest ally trying to get that done,”” he said.” Lie. In August 2023 he vetoed a bill that would allow construction on new nuclear plants. “The bill is vetoed because….(it) will open the door to the proliferation of large-scale nuclear reactors..” What he has done is signed legislation that allows for small modular reactors, the only actual operating ones are in Russia and China.
Pritzger blames Trump for the Hindenburg disaster, the Chicago Fire, the Holocaust and everything else instead of looking in the mirror and placing the blame for a failed state of IL where it squarely belongs.
Pritzker always blames Trump for his horrible policies. It would be nice if he would accept accountability for his far left policies failing.
The hits just keep on coming to the residents living in the Communist state of Illinois.
Criminals & illegals run free, high gasoline tax, property tax, now electric rates.
The fault lies solely from those who govern this state!
Chicago is becoming a self-contained, increasingly socialist city whose growing fiscal burdens may soon require statewide support. If New York is any indication of the left’s trajectory, Chicago’s political dominance could steer all of Illinois toward economic unsustainability.
The Chinese lead the world in Solar and Wind energy production. This is the new way like it or not. Climate change is real, and we must do something about it. If the US ignores it the end result will be bad for everyone. The USA is refusing to compete in the future technology, shame on us.
China has most coal plants in world. #1 coal producer. 3 of the worlds top 5 coal plants in size. Generates over 50% of world’s electricity via coal. Building more coal plants every month. Kind of shoots your theory.
Don’t forget that CCP companies are also exempt from ESG criteria, and that they also receive loans from the World Bank at far lower rates and longer repayment terms. Why? Because China is still considered a “developing economy”. That is what you get when you turn over the world’s manufacturing to the biggest communist on the block. All they have to do is threaten to shut down production… and poof, no rules for the CCP.
Wow. Someone believes the media farce. Golly, did the Wuhan virus originate in a ‘Wet market” in china too? You know the book “The Population Bomb” by Paul R. Ehrlich and Anne Ehrlich in the late 1960’s was the exact same panic folly generated by the power grabbing tyrants of the Democrat and Communist party for political reasons and devoid of science. Keep lapping it up.
I’m assuming you are being sarcastic – no one could be this clueless. What happens in your world when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine? Blackouts?
Boom Boom Out Go da Lights!!
Make no mistake, Pritzker and the Leftist Demcrats CEJA is THE blame for higher electric costs in IL.
Pritzkasaurus should blame his own green grift ‘n’ graft grab-bag, for Illinois’ energy cluster. Illinois Democrats couldn’t resist signing onto the failed green energy suicide pact designed by their Communist Cousins in California.
Right……..blame Trump. For lower natural gas and oil prices. Of course JB. All part of the Pritzker for President 2028 Campaign. Do Illinois a favor JB and please please please spend all of your daddy’s fortune on this Presidential fever dream. Golly, as reference, Karmella spend $1B in her three month presidential campaign and still lost. At that rate, you will need to spend all of your $3.7 Billion and then some in twelve months to keep pace with the Harris campaign. Do it!
Did you ever wonder how much of that $3,700,000,000.00, came from NGOs, USAID, and various such “charities”?
