Pritzker defends social equity measures in recreational pot bill, tamps down expectations for Jan. 1 launch – Chicago Tribune

“Our goal is not to immediately deliver as much access to recreational cannabis as possible as quickly as possible,” Pritzker said while signing a measure that tweaks the landmark legalization bill he signed in June.
Rather, Pritzker said, the overarching aim of the legalization law is “to address the inequities that have wreaked havoc on many of our communities.”

What a fool Jabba is. Making money is the whole purpose of selling pot. Chicago and Illinois are broke, they’re going to have to sell more pot than the Sinaloa cartel to avoid getting deeper in debt

And the irony is that the Sinaloa cartel will continue making most of the money anyways. Legalized dope is going to be very expensive and high taxed and onerous to purchase. I know of guys who buy weed from dealers and they make house calls. But with the law legalized marijuana, there are few shops that can actually sell, the tax rates will be outrageous, there’s a limit on how much you can buy (an ounce at a time), there will be restricted hours, they ID the heck out of you, and there is a tight supply that means it… Read more »

Once pot is legal, what will happen in “communities” in Chicago where getting drunk or stoned is an all-day, all-week affair? Will “recreational pot” be cheap enough that those who will (and they WILL) get stoned seven days a week can afford it without ramping up the armed robbery/burglary numbers?

Gambling on every street corner now. Alcohol available 24/7. Porn available for $ on cable, free on cable-internet. Homosexual “scout-masters” presumably so they can camp with boys. Pink-haired boy who claims he’s a girl to shower directly with actual girls at Paletine HS. Pot soon to be openly available. Discussion in some quarters about legalizing prostitution (“sex work is ‘real’ work.”) Advocacy for lowering the age of consent for sex (esp. the NAMBLA crowd.) Is it just me, or is the Pritzger Ilk trying to make this movie the one where George Bailey was never born? All I see around… Read more »

As long as the money flows into pensions, who cares?

Oh, to put a tracer on the money to be spent on pot so that we could see which politicians’ friends and families end up with the loot.

It highlights how dumb the average person is these days. Politicians had to be more artful in their lies back when people used to actually pay attention to things. The fact that they’re as blatant as they are now (both here and in DC with the impeachment fiasco) is telling.

Debtsor, nothing has changed for going on 50 years. No one wanted then (or now) to believe that the condition of people is due to factors within THEM, not their surroundings. It’s been scientifically established and indisputable since the 1960’s that SocioEconomic Status of adoptees correlates the same to their BIOLOGICAL parents as does the SocioEconomic Status of children raised by their biological parents, whereas the correlation of adoptees to adoptive parents (AKA “environment”) is literally zero. “Inequities between communities” is Newspeak for black and brown people lag because of racism. It’s a LIE, and it’s been a known lie… Read more »

Except those whom you are trying to pander to can’t be bothered since-in typical Illinois fashion-you have made the process as onerous as possible due to the potential of those in your government to get their breaks wet.

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
