Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Pritzker graded an F yet Bailey still polls lower than him. What does that say about Bailey? What does that say about Republicans that voted for him in the primary? What a joke.
I think I read that the Democrats switched parties in the selection of primary voting so as to vote for Bailey following the theory that he, Baily, would be the easiest to defeat by Pritzker. I see things like this happen all the time in my downstate Democrat party stronghold and have no doubt Republicans do the same in their protected areas. Another flaw in the voting process that the politicians seek ready use of
I don’t view it as a flaw in the voting process. We have the freedom to vote for whomever we please in each and every election. I’ve voted in both democratic and republican primarys throughout my lifetime.
This was a survey of governors. If Bailey was governor of Illinois and had done the things he says he will do he may have very well gotten an “A” in the survey.
You mean like cut 10-15 billion from the budget? That’s the biggest whopper of this election season. What could Bailey actually accomplish if elected? I’m good if he gets elected just so we don’t have any more executive orders from JB but not sure Bailey could do anything else. So I’m not really sure how he would ever be rated high. Please tell us all what you actually think he could do.
With supermajorities in the legislature by the Chicagoland Democrats it is doubtful he could accomplish anything beyond stopping things from getting worse
Stopping things from getting worse would be a first great stop. If you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING. Then figure out how to get out. But you need to stop digging first. That’s the perfect metaphor for IL.
Couldn’t agree more.
PPF, “Have you considered the possibility that your decision process is based on an echo chamber filled with nonsense?” Carl
I actually like PPF, I disagree with his opinions on many things, but he is correct about many others. We here are in the echo chamber. He’s presenting an objective point of view with facts that support his position. We may not agree with his conclusions, but he’s got a point. He might very well be a Cap Fax poster too but he doesn’t have the same tone as them. The Cap Fax crowd is also in their own bubble, oblivious to the rest of the conservative world around them, and without overgeneralizing, their arguments rely almost entirely on personal… Read more »
I’m confused as to what echo chamber you are referring to? Are you saying that my decision making process is based on being in an echo chamber? You do understand that my ideas fly contrary to what most people on this site echo? I’m not sure where my echo chamber is located. I’m somebody that believes in the US Constitution and the fairness that comes with living by those rules. Many times that means I side with Republicans and sometimes that means Democrats align better to my beliefs. Maybe I’m really confused and you were just admitting that your beliefs… Read more »
Progressives have run the state into the ground.
The sad part is that they like it this way. And when people like this finally come to their senses, and realize how crappy it has become, they move somewhere else, but unfortunately, bring their voting habits with them.
The take away from this report is that all governors that received an “A” were republicans and all governors that received an “F” were democrats. The republican governors generally pursued tax cuts, spending restraint, deregulation, and school choice. Not so much for the democratic governors.
Not going to see this in MSM – thanks, Wirepoints!
To Pritzker an “F” grade is considered Fantastic.
Says it all really.
In a proper civilized and not corrupt world, JB would lose his job in November.
But we know he is going to steal it. As the votes come in and they see how far they are behind from the non-Chicago parts of the state, they will “manufacture” ballots in Cook County, to get him over the line.
We all know this.
Does anyone other than Wirepoints pick up on stories like this? Illinoisans are so oblivious to what the view of their home state is to folk outside of Illinois. This is just another example of the dumbing down of the voters in Illinois.
I heard JB ask if he could buy a vowel
