Pritzker, Illinois GOP respond to threat of 20% tax hike if voters reject progressive income tax – Center Square

“There are three choices that people have,” Pritzker said. “Either you’re going see a 20% increase meaning one full percentage point increase in order to cover that structural deficit...or you’re going see a 15% cut in government, in our budget, which would significantly reduce education funding at the state level, increase property taxes in the state, and would reduce public funding for our safety."

A true leader would also consider for every $1 generated from a tax hike, there’s a corresponding $1 cut in expenses. But then that would force JB to show his hand and what he truly values. He’s truly afraid to offend anyone on his side.

Squeeze every drip of blood from the turnips.

Then, and only then, consider reforming pension.

In other words the peak of the Laffer curve must be reached for each and every current and not yet enacted source of revenue.

They will raise them 20%, albeit not at once, if the blank check amendment passes. There’s a reason the rates, brackets and deductions are not part of the bill. That would have been better, because then it would take another amendment to raise taxes.

20% tax hike is only the beginning.
Taxes are going to double every 5 years for many years to come.
Government will not cut pension or cut spending.

C’mon folks, you knew this was coming, even pre-pandemic. Tax hikes will come before pension cuts. Its not about the math, its about machine politics.

Cut the government budget.
It is bloated with all the “PORK”.
There are many unnecessary “government” jobs.

Gosh. Illinois taxpayers get three choices from the Democrat tyrants running the state:
1. Amendment removing all legal controls on income taxation resulting in a avalanche of new income taxes upon everyone.
2. 20% tax increase for all.
3. “Or you’re going see a 15% cut in government, in our budget”.

BINGO!!! How about number 3. Cut IL Government and budget. It is guaranteed that if IL government is cut that no one would notice. Democrats of course would cut the services most painful to the citizenry and most favorable ot government worker unions in order to punish the peasants.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
