The governor's executive order builds on a report from the Missing Middle Housing Solutions Advisory Committee that offered more than two dozen potential solutions — including state mandates to eliminate local bans on accessory dwelling units, a switch from requiring parking minimums to setting parking maximums, and requiring that multi-family development be permitted on any lot larger than 5,000 square feet.
OMG I love it! Should this go through the Democrat voting nanny state neighbors in my downstate liberal utopia will have atomic reactions in their heads when they can’t tell others what to do. Better yet will be to see the reactions when a multi family unit is put on their block that might house <gasp> a section 8 renter. The dumbfounded looks on their faces as they wonder how it could have happened will be priceless and not to miss and to think they are the very ones that preach freedom for all…till it comes to their neighborhood.

Illinois already has long standing high density communities. They’re called “cities”. See, for example, – checks notes – Chicago!
This executive order draws a bullseye on the suburbs, which were developed as an antidote to the congestion, noise, pollution and social problems of the city.
Illinois is broke.
Higher density development in the suburbs means more “improved” property to tax. More taxes = good news for Illinois government.
The Dems don’t care if the suburbs have to be ruined in the process
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
