The abolition of single family zoning laws has been a pet project of the nutty progressive intelligentsia and thought leaders for about a decade now. Its absolutely insane that the state will force communities to permit four unit apartment buildings or condos on any lot larger than 5,000 sq feet, in any neighborhood, for any reason, regardless of parking, access, schools. I think JB Pritzker jumped the shark on this one. Normal people don’t want to live next to four flats in single family zoned suburbs, which is a majority of the state. Local democrats politicians are screaming right now… Read more »

You have got to be kidding. A lot in the near suburbs could be 50X155=7750 square feet. Currently, that allows for a single driveway to the backyard and minimal room on either side of the house. According to this article, a builder could erect an 8 flat on it – and the village would have to accept it?

The Dems really are this stupid. Seems like they just want to dismantle what is left of livability in the state. What could go wrong?

Villages better push back hard on this one.

This is one of the dirtiest power plays I’ve ever seen! Communists are eating their own! Hey under boss comrades, billionaire Pritzker thinks you are in his way! Pritzker needs your tribute and territory, but not your service. LOL. It’s Trump’s fault. It’s only temporary.

Another power grab by Pritzker and Springfield. Windmills can be erected anywhere they want now, with counties unable to have any say in permitting. Now he’s taking over control of local zoning (to call it a proposal is a farce, it’ll pass at 2AM in a shell bill). He is slowing walking over all local control, anything your town wants to do will have to be first blessed by the billionaire. This is dangerous.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
