State revenues have increased as Pritzker’s automatic inflationary adjustments kicked in each July, driving the tax from 38 cents to the current 47 cents per gallon. Putting the gas tax hikes on autopilot allows state lawmakers to escape responsibility for imposing unpopular tax hikes.
Two points regarding this issue. First, it is an insult in a state with a tax burden that is already high to DOUBLE any tax. This wasn’t a simple increase of 5 yo 10%. Democrats always go full tilt when raising a tax, and greedy Pritzker did just that with a 100% increase. Second, at the same time he doubled the tax, he indexed it to inflation, just in time for Dementia Joe’s record setting inflation. I go across the State line to get medical care as in my area many Doctors have moved their practice across the State line as well and the newly graduated Doctors seem to want no part of Illinois. When I go then I can buy fuel at a much cheaper price as well which adds a bit of fun as I think with each gallon pumped there are no taxes going to Pritzker et al. Some have told me that I am ignorant as my home state needs that gas tax but quite frankly I could care less about motor… Read more »

Pritzker needs to go. Democrats never consider spending cuts and living within a budget.
