Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Free speech arguments are simply scratching the surface. There was an influencer inspired riot, if you can call it that, the other day in New York. Traditionally, there were two processes to justice, the one official, the other popular. They were carried on in parallel, one in courts of law, and others in press, public meetings, etc. There are many contested issues regarding the right to know vs. the right to a fair trial. What we’re dealing with now is an entirely different matter and far more sophisticated than influence pedaling. They sure are. Both professions have been captured by the left. They are beyond salvageable.
