WSJ today

The Chicago runoff was a battle between the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party, and the left won despite public frustration over rising crime and failing schools. Brandon Johnson’s victory means the city’s decline as a laboratory for progressive governance will continue, and more companies will consider following the recent exits of Caterpillar, Boeing and Citadel.

Will Mayor-Elect Johnson share with all of us his blessing to not pay our property taxes for 3 years? Asking for a friend…

I don’t watch much news on TV in Chicago if you want to call it that. But it seems like very little coverage of crime these last few weeks. That gets crime out of the election news and helps Brandon. Just the conspiracy theory in me thinking out loud.

Definitely less crime in the past few weeks, but it’s not a conspiracy theory — it was just FREEZING in Chicago. A very, very cold March, way colder than the past two years’ Marches. A warmer one with more gang b.s. would have likely helped Vallas.

One-fifth of the city voted for Brandon out of all eligible voters. Chicagoans are just an apathetic bunch. It’s really sad for the other fifth of eligible voters who were smart enough to vote Vallas. They don’t deserve this.

There’s just not enough good people left who care. Turnout was low. The progressives, despite being a minority in the city politically, have a well oiled machine that turns out every ballot, every election, straight ticket progressive Democrat. The communists took over all of Russia with only a 25% of the population and forced everyone else to live under their yoke for 70 years. And those who didn’t vote, just don’t care enough about what is going on. We’ve been defeated, there is no more reason to fight. Time to move on.

Does this hurt JB’s chance to run for President? My guess is yes. Nationally, the voters will place the ruin of Chicago squarely on his back. ( I am trying to keep my cup half full)

It’s one of the few upsides of this. J.B. can no longer blame anything on Lori, especially with the SAFE-T Act about to be upheld. The crime and the blame for it will fall squarely on him, Brandon, Preckwinkle and Foxx. I didn’t like Lori, but I always felt she took too much heat for the criminal justice system being run abysmally by Preckwinkle’s toadies.

I will enjoy watching this sheeeet show evolve from my low tax state out west.

Still hoping the Feds will be able to lock up Mikey Madigan and hopefully neuter the corrupt Dems influence in Springfield.

Union members, including teachers + blacks + free stuff army + 0, representing those too lazy to vote, have spoken. Have plenty of popcorn stashed to pop while watching the city of Chicago swirl nearer the drain. This will be a show not to miss and I, laughingly, will enjoy watching it unfold. The big hit will be when there will be no more Federal help…priceless

I wish I could believe there’s no more Federal help coming. But if the R’s could barely win the House after the last two years and can’t seem to quit Trump, who has almost no Electoral path to the WH, there’s no guarantee that will happen. Ugh.

Yeah – I’ve moved on and am not living in 2016 anymore. Think Trump can pull off wins in PA, AZ, and MI this time after what we saw in the 2020 and 2022 cycles? GA and WI? Look forward to some more of your hard hitting thoughts…

Of course youve moved from 2016 cause it does fit youre narrative Stupid statements rarely admit the FACTS Obviously the states you mention are a problem but the country by November of 2024 will be in the midst of something this country has seen since 1932 will people blame Trump and the Republicans HARDLY hard hitting thoughts God knows you must be a genius cause you certainly sound like a DOUCHE BAG ELITES from your statements

Biden said the other day that he will make sure that Trump doesn’t become president again. That dementia riddled man said the quiet part out loud. 2020 was a coup and 2024 will be a coup too. The people in charge will never give up power again. They accuse Trump of being a threat to Democracy when they themselves are the threat.

I know it’s hard to be on the internet and have a rational discussion, but try to work with me here. If those five states are a problem, where are the 36 or so electoral votes going to come from for Trump to win, assuming he is able to hold on to everything else?

Republicans may never win the presidency again; which means that it will be a overly dominant federal government extracting retribution on Red States, leading to a coalition of red states, comprising of millions of people, to #resist the federal government, and the show down that occurs when Red States refuse to comply with federal regime orders. Will Democrats send troops into Arkansas again but this time to ensure Drag Queen Story Hour? Will they send troops into Florida to force legislators to use Democrat’s preferred pronouns? There’s still a lot of progressive lunacy remaining, and they are becoming increasingly authoritarian… Read more »

I agree with you. November was a bummer, but last night was VERY depressing because those paths to keeping the crazies in check just seem to be disappearing. The idea that I can just move to Texas or Florida and everything will be OK isn’t true – the next crack the D’s have at all of Congress and the WH may be all she wrote for the country as we knew it. Scary stuff…

Agree. Those who keep saying “just move” are missing the big picture. These people intend to run the table, and no place will be immune. Moving only means that you will be 1,000 miles away from family when the real **** hits the fan. Better to stay and fight as best we can.

Exactly right. Trump cannot win. He cannot and he will NOT. It is stunning there are so many people believing he can win a general. I’ve lost all hope.

I am a moderate Democrat and I have NOWHERE to turn. I am disgusted by progressives and appalled by Trump and his allies. Who do I vote for now? It sucks.

There’s half a dozen other Republicans either running or about to run for president. Trump’s positions, if you looked at them, are actually pretty moderate compared to the communists running the Democrat Party. But the TDS is an uncurable disease.

Triage my friend. The progessive Democrats are the immediate danger to our country. Trump may be appalling, but he is not the clear and present danger.

What’s for certain, is the mayor after Johnson won’t matter. Chicago, if it’s not already, will be ungovernable.

The homeless will soon have more money than the Chitty of Chicago.
Taxes will go to the moon, and they will still not have the change of a nickel.
Let the Public sector have all the money. If you’re a hard-working family man, you are living in the wrong city. If you are a lazy worthless government Lackie you hit the jackpot.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
