Trump will need to be willing to die on this hill. If he doesn’t, he loses his base for 2020, and loses the election. If he holds firm–even for months or the remaining time in his presidency–no one can accuse him of not standing up for his promises. It would be a bloodbath in 2020, but at least he takes everyone with him, and the whole things resets again.
