Report: Chicago’s 6 mph speeding threshold produced over 300,000 tickets in first 2 months – WGNTV (Chicago)

The revenue is almost a 17-fold increase over the same two months in 2019 when the city was issuing tickets for 10 miles per hour and over.

Really making the city user friendly again . the past 2 years will derail 30 years of getting the city from marginally livable to a destination. Now we will be lucky if it settles out at marginally livable

It’s simply a money grab. Going after the real speeders would be racist and dangerous. Just give Lori money so she can give it away!

Average drivers’ car-speed wobbles 5+ mph, back and forth, up and down, while driving, because the human foot isn’t necessarily a steady force applied to gas-pedal. City Hall’s imposition of 6 mph as “speeding” trigger is intended to “tax by penalty-fee” as many Chicago drivers as possible. If City Hall was truly interested in “traffic safety” and “accident prevention”, they’d install speed cameras on Lake Shore Drive, where some drivers are 30 mph+, even 40 mph+, over 45 mph speed-limit, weaving lane-to-lane, causing true dangerous driving conditions for other drivers. What about those who drive 40 in a 55 zone. That offense is impeding the flow of traffic and raises my blood pressure to boot. Lots of Clara Pellars’s out there. More and more are doing that. I see people not moving at a green light. My guess is they have Covid brain fog or a recent vaccine.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
