Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
What makes this so hard to understand and comprehend is that there is not a DAMN politician in Illinois that has a clue how to fix or handle this problem, my own opinion Illinois politicians are all scum.
My home valuation went up 75% which is completely insane. Of course the tax appeal was denied. I’m hoping that because everyone’s assessment went up dramatically that my individual bill won’t be too much, but I’m pretty for my shack’s taxes to break into the five-figure territory, maybe higher.
debtsor,
My new property taxes in a Denver burb went up to $4000 this year.
That’s 0.7% of my homes assessed value.
The average property tax in the burbs of Sheeetcago are 2.25% and it sounds like they are increasing once again.
Might be time to think about moving west?

Dumbver is sheethole now too, I hear. I visit another forum where the Dumbver posters complain it is nearly as bad as Sheeetcago now. SLC is the place to move, I hear.
SLC is running out of water as the Great Salt Lake disappears.
Denver is fiscally in great shape compared to Sheeeetcago.
Pick your poison debtsor.
Denver’s car theft, property crime rates still shocking compared to other cities Denver’s crime rates remain worse than before the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, making Colorado’s biggest city among the most crime-ridden metro areas in America, notably when it comes to car theft, a new report shows. Denver’s average monthly crime rate in 2022 stood at 43% higher than in 2019 and 75% more compared to 2008. And the nearly 15,000 cars that were stolen in the city last year made Denver No. 3 in car theft among America’s cities, according to the report from the Common Sense Institute.… Read more »
The Nigel’s from Sheetcago are moving to Denver apparently.
Two of the reasons values went up last year were low interest rates and the cost of lumber added up to $36K to a new home. Those have changed now. Now that lumber dropped by up to 75% so does that mean the home value will also drop? If you live in a Ptell county taxes may not be raised more than 5%. That may help but whatever the taxes happen to be the taxing bodies will not get less than last year regardless of value. By any chance did any of your taxing bodies curtailed their expenses like the school… Read more »
The school did not curtail expenses. ‘Good schools’ spare no expense. The township and village try their best to costs down. The crazies scream we’re not spending enough to attract top talent. Doubt that’s true.
Da schools and da teachers union are a black hole in Illinois.
No amount of $$ will satisfy the desires of the Illinois teachers unions and their beotches on the school boards.
Have fun paying for it in Taxistan.
