Residents of Chicago’s south suburbs deal with crushing tax increases – WBEZ (Chicago)

“There comes a point when it’s like, this is so incredibly unfair to the people that are living in this area. This is a kick to the most sensitive part of the body,” Park Forest homeowner Marc Byrnes said. “Our houses have not gone up a million dollars in value. I want to know. I want to ask [Cook County Treasurer] Maria Pappas, right to her face, what’s your explanation for this?”

There is an explanation for your ridiculously high PT bill. You have to pay for bloat in IL governmental offices for employees and retirees. Bloat includes excessively high salaries, pensions, health care benefits, number of employees, number of departments, number of offices, etc.

Come to the southwest suburbs, Will, Dupage, Kane etc stop your crying every year 300 400 500 dollar increases without fail crushing my a-s in Park Forest

Agreed. My wife did a Zillow search on our old house in Will County and saw the taxes are now $5 shy of $14K/yr. “The bill had gone from $1,162.32 due in March to $4,706.75 due in August.” Boo Hoo Hoo. I shall rosin up the world’s smallest violin and play a sad tune for you Mr. Byrnes. “Although Byrnes lives frugally and considers himself fortunate to be able to make the payments, he feels angry that his tax bill has shot up while his property’s value hasn’t.
