Rich Miller: Illinois would be squeezed if Trump, congressional Republicans cut Medicaid expansion – Chicago Sun-Times

"The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services’ list of Medicaid recipients by House and Senate districts has been urgently circulated among legislators for the past several days, mainly because of congressional threats made to reduce or eliminate federal funding for the Medicaid expansion program. ... Illinois has a trigger law that requires the state to withdraw from the expansion program three months after federal reimbursement falls below 90 percent."

Finally, an article that’s truly hitting home for the Republicans who are always crying about how Democrats are messing up. The Convicted Felon-in-Chief will hit the Medicaid/Medicare system putting ALL Illinois residents without the safety net of health insurance. As we’ve always have said, be very careful with what you ask for! Some of y’all always voting AGAINST your own interest. SMDH! ALWAYS!

Healthcare is not a right and there is no free lunch…..unless you are an Illinois Public Sector Union parasite. But that evil grift is coming to an end too. Just not soon enough.

The article is about the “Medicaid expansion” program not the original Medicaid program that still operates.

The stupidity of your argument is eclipsed only by the lack of intelligence with which you present it .

We now live in the legacy of former Governor Quinn’s signing of the Medicaid expansion law that was a part of Obama’s health care laws. Under the program the Federal Government was going to foot the expanded bills for the first three years. In typical Illinois style, and over objections of the programs sustainability by Republicans, Quinn took the bait, signed the law and here we are today. Initially 342,000 residents were expected to be covered that has now expanded to 772,233 individuals no doubt helped along the way with Pritzker’s “vision for healthcare equity” that expanded the program to… Read more »

My numbers refer to the “Medicare expansion” part of the program signed by Quinn. I remember at the time many thought it was a big popularity stunt by Quinn since there would bills to pay initially making himself look good in a usual political way. None the less Quinn is gone and we are stuck with the ever recurring bills. Do politics ever change? I don’t think Quinn thought the program would be used on the immigration issue we now face under Pritzker but then again they are of the same party. The initial sign up numbers are from here… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
