Salute to Chicago Thinker: ‘Outthinking the Mob’ – Wirepoints Quickpoint

If you think all college kids are naive snowflakes with no critical thinking skills, you are not familiar with Chicago Thinker.

Founded and staffed entirely by University of Chicago students, they represent the best of America’s young people. They’ve garnered well-earned, national recognition for honoring their tagline, which is “Outthink the Mob.”

We’ve linked to some of their columns in the past few years on topics like wrong-headed Covid policies, Chicago’s problems, media failures and the deepest issues of America’s decline.

The Thinker’s graduating and incoming staff, with faculty advisors

You won’t agree with all they write: Among themselves, they don’t either. That’s because, foremost among their principles, is dedication to free thought and free speech, upholding the best of the University of Chicago’s tradition, while exposing even the university’s occasional failings. That dedication often has them labeled as “conservative” by mainstream media. In truth, like so many others so labeled, they stand for mainstream political debate.

I was delighted to be invited to their recent get-together, hosted by one of the university’s faculty who advise them, recognizing their graduates and welcoming their new student staff. What an exceptional group of young people I met. They are far wiser than most of us were at their age in their understanding of both the historic challenges America faces and the street-level issues where those challenges are playing out.

To the Chicago Thinkers now graduating, I wish the best of luck and all the success in the world. Same to its incoming staff.

-Mark Glennon

The white males in this group, they will be openly discriminated against for their entire careers and will be looked over for promotions thanks to DEI

Anyone who isn’t a openly leftist communist trash won’t be successful at all in academia. Maybe Hillsdale College could be an opportunity, or even all the other private and charter schools opening across the country combating the leftist trash communist public school indoctrination. Also sad thing Mark is this extremist anti white racist ideology has gotten into the private sector and mostly all the big corporations. They are a complete disgrace for what the board rooms have turned into. And any woke morons reading this, you can go f*ck yourselves, the woke bs is coming to an end soon, people… Read more »

It’s going to be difficult for the people in the halls of power – who fervently believe in anti-human religion – to change their minds, and go back to normal. They are as committed to this ideology as the jihadist is committed to his own morality and religious belief.

Agreed debtsor, Republican party seems to be sane so the solution is to get rid of all these worthless trash communist democrats and also keep fighting to purge the rino a**holes from the Republican party.

Mark, it’s nice to know that pockets of sanity still exist at our universities. Just out of curiosity, did the graduates happen to mention whether they would be leaving Illinois?

Some will stay in Illinois, but more will leave.
Those are the numbers these days. Many more places with far better opportunities to get ahead in life. Why pay bills for something you had nothing to do with?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
