Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

What a goof!!!
His district goes first in cost cutting measures. We’ll start with closing Vandalia and Centralia correctional facilities and layoff all the AFSCME represented prison guards. That will save the IL some money and will close the gap on funding pension benefits.
Also, a ton of Northern IL tax money flowing to his district to lock these minimum security people up.

Nah, let’s start with the platinum pensions and get an amendment out to the voters ditching the 3% COLA’s. However, your plan does sound attractive. Not sure you have noticed but they have been letting the prisoners out of jail since the pandemic hit. Less prisoners means less guards. They can move to other states like much of the private sector your heroes have forced to move elsewhere because their cost of living is through the roof to pay for the nonsense promised public sector workers.

For years here at wirepoints… These thoughts have been said in many ways better, by articles, and the people who post here. I really believe that reader posts here are read by politicians, and that’s what gives wirepoints true power over the “other” Illinois-related issues web sites. Having letters to the editor shows politicians that there are real people with real disgust. I think without the people’s voice underlining a news aggregators article choices with real letters would flow in one ear and out the other with these politicians. Obviously this representative gets us.
The politicians on the left in Illinois–take from the average guy and pad the pockets of the politically connected.
