Some Northwestern students boycotting antibias training – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

Micol Bez, center left, and Salma Moustafa, center right, are both Ph.D. candidates at Northwestern University, and are among a few dozen students boycotting the school's controversial antibias training. (E. Jason Wambsgans/Chicago Tribune)A group of students is boycotting Northwestern’s controversial antibias training video, which critics say conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Those who refuse to complete the online training will be unable to enroll in fall classes, the university said, which could jeopardize their academic standing if they miss the final course registration deadline.

There should be anti discrimination seminars for all groups, not pro Muslim seminars. I don’t care about what agreement Notyhwestern signed with Qatar.

Students have had to take the mandated Lavender Mafia classes for years….you can sit through a video about the antisemitism you practice if you really want that worth less degree….political epistemology and abolitionism? really?

It seems that Northwestern was originally too pro-Palestinian, but is now too pro-Israel.  The online course explicitly states that, “It is not antisemitic to criticize the policies, practices, or members of the Israeli government,” unless that criticism relies on antisemitic tropes.  So if your speech “relies” on “tropes,” it is “antisemitic.” In other words, if you criticize Israel in a way “we” don’t like, you are “antisemitic”, and presumably violating the Student Code of Conduct. BTW, I support Israel’s right to exist, and would have supported a stronger Israeli response to the October 10, 2023 atrocities. I also oppose the… Read more »

The percentage of Northwestern students who should be in trades schools instead of Northwestern is much higher than the actual number who belong at Northwestern. It should be national goal that overall college attendance should be a mere fraction of what it is today. Federal dollars should only be directed to degrees that lead to jobs that further the long term national goals of the USA. Loan rates for worthwhile degrees should also be discounted from the loan rates for useless degrees. If you want to get a degree in a made up degree or field of study, pay for… Read more »

BUT if they’re paying students NW won’t let them go unless their grades are too low. However faculty also understands economics so grade inflation will take over.

Professor John Mearsheimer responded (on Judge Napolitano”s “Judging Freedom” broadcast one week ago) to the question of antisemitism on college campuses. The UC professor pointed out that there are many tenured Jewish college instructors. He agrees with the NWU students that wealthy Zionist donors are trying to shut down anti-Israel protests that bring unwanted attention to that nation. These donors hate our Bill of Rights so much that they should registered as agents of a foreign power. Remember when CBS’s Wally Jacobson pushed and got his unconstitutional hate crime (thought) laws passed at the state and federal levels?

Jesus Christ stated that “the truth will set you free”. The righteous are not afraid!

“Truth” generally isn’t all that easy to ascertain. What almost always poses as truth is a strongly held opinion. Think “flat earth society” as but one old example. Wirepoints and social media in the larger sense generally caters to that and all the more so when responders’ real identities and life circumstances are unknown.

Don’t let your friends hear you saying that. The ones who are certain they have all the answers because they are on the right side of history and all. Who know so much they should be put in charge of deciding what is misinformation and what is right think.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
