Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. It’s hard to rationalize a small business owner staying in Chicago after getting repeatedly robbed or vandalized. To paraphrase Dean Wormer: Living in a lawless community is no way to go through life, son.
The only way to currently deal with these punks, because no one will step up is easy.
They try to steal and rob your business
Greet them with a 2 row 12 bore with 00
Shot. They will get the message.
Laughable. Kim Foxx will throw the business owner in jail for fighting back with ‘lethal force’ against the burglars, who are only trying to steal ‘bread and bicycles’ to feed their family. We live in a state of anarcho-tyranny, where the criminals can commit crime freely but the law abiding citizen is punished. This is exactly how it was in Bolshevik Russia too, in case you are wondering.
Da comrade
I swear its got to be the lead pipes.
Note to shop manager- You’re on your own. The criminal enabling politicians that you give tax money to don’t care. Peddle out of Dodge while you still can.
My husband and I are bicycling enthusiasts. We support our local bike shop. However, at some point, you gotta give up on operating a small business in Chicago. I don’t think the mayor cares about you. Restaurant owners, shopkeepers, and small landlords have packed up and left for good reason. In addition, bike thefts jumped during the pandemic. That trend isn’t going to reverse anytime soon.
You finally got it
Keep voting Democrat, this is what you get, bike shop owner , did you vote Democrat ?? Probably yes, oh well .
Close your store or move it to the suburbs. The current elected officials in Chicago think you should supply free bikes to POC, you know, because of a history of disinvestment in their communities. And it better be top of the line bicycles, or you’ll be called out as racist. Leave your cash register full and wide open at all times, in case some of the peeps prefer cash to actual bicycles.
Arguably, though insensitive, this story fails to move the empathy needle… Back before the election of BJ, there was any number of opportunities for rational folks to vote for PV… But, nope, for whatever reason few of us showed up and the polls to try to save our city from LL to the power of 2 (with half of the intellect, which, hoenstly, is hard to believe!!!)
Chicago is dying… And, until it’s dead, it cannot arise from the ashes.
Thanks Dems, mission accomplished.
Chicago will never rise from the ashes. Has Baltimore, Cleveland or Detroit or St. Louis ever risen from the ashes? No, they have not, and they never will, because people move on in life, change their habits and inhabit different spaces. When a city is destroyed, it is lost, it rarely comes back, once in a while there is a New York miracle but other than rare instances, they become blighted and people move on. Chicago must be saved before it turns to blight but the 2/3rds of the city’s population want to destroy what good that remains, for equity.… Read more »
