Stacy Davis Gates: The wheels have come off Chicago education reformers’ charter school experiment – Chicago Tribune*

"The reasons charter operators give for the closures range from lack of funds, low achievement or their outright refusal to recognize their employees’ vote for a union, as was the case at Hope Learning Academy. There are some who will equate what is happening at charters with challenges in the rest of the Chicago school district, but the two are not the same."

Wow, Stacey at her best. Racism, rich people/corporations, Trump.

I could not finish her rant.

Not sure how charter schools work in other areas, But isn’t one of the causes of Charters failing in Chicago is that they are part of CPS.

The CTU exists solely for the enrichment of its members and staff members. Educating your children ranks far below their benefits and working conditions, indoctrination and the welfare of illegals.

Absolutely correct. PPF has told us many times that is the purpose of the teacher unions.

Unfortunately, they spent decades telling us they only wanted what was best for “the children”. And we were stupid enough to believe it.

We thought by voting for what teacher unions wanted, we were voting to put kids first.

Now they are laughing in our faces. And telling us if we don’t like it, we should move.

Gates is against charter schools because they expose CTU and make CTU look like the failure that they are.

The wheels have “been off” of public education for decades. In the recent years, the spending on education with no results has been obscene. Look in the mirror Stacy.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
