Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Wirepoints: please investigate connections between Sanchez, property-owner of this site, and Mayor’s chief-of-staff Rich Guidice. There’s a story there.
Think this project was ultimately about Sanchez getting government-paid remediation of his site, to allow it to be redeveloped after a brief occupancy as “tent-city”. Daley-guy Sanchez went to prison, stayed mum, stayed alive. Guidice is another Daley-guy, and Mayor BJ’s puppet-master. Perhaps Daley guys ultimately still control Chicago’s big spending projects. BJ’s progressive agenda is masking the uninterrupted “business as usual” allocations of clout-driven big expenditure projects.

The site needed to be remediated before putting anything on it. The shelter will need to be dismantled and the new concrete torn up so remediation can take place. This is so basic for brownfield sites – who’s running the show!?
