State halts Brighton Park migrant site construction pending environmental review – Chicago Sun-Times

The Brighton Park migrant housing tent on Monday shows a roof now covering the shelter. But construction was halted Sunday at the site intended to house newly arrived migrants pending an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency review of a nearly 800-page city consultant’s study that was released Friday night. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency “still has questions regarding the study,” said Jordan Adudayyeh, a spokeswoman for Gov. JB Pritzker. Pritzker is committing $65 million for the shelter and directing the contractor on the site.

“This is not who we are.” mumbled the dementia-addled reclusive grifter presidential candidate, and the useless media took the slogan and ran. Those who wanted the borders enforced are now racists and xenophobes. Makes me wonder what expressway speeders should be tarred with, as they also long for non-enforcement of the law. I reserve my ire for those going too slow in the left lane, so I admit myself biased. I am also biased towards enforcement of our border and immigration laws. Full stop. End of story. No shelters need be built for those lacking a passport who are simply… Read more »

Wirepoints: please investigate connections between Sanchez, property-owner of this site, and Mayor’s chief-of-staff Rich Guidice. There’s a story there.

Think this project was ultimately about Sanchez getting government-paid remediation of his site, to allow it to be redeveloped after a brief occupancy as “tent-city”. Daley-guy Sanchez went to prison, stayed mum, stayed alive. Guidice is another Daley-guy, and Mayor BJ’s puppet-master. Perhaps Daley guys ultimately still control Chicago’s big spending projects. BJ’s progressive agenda is masking the uninterrupted “business as usual” allocations of clout-driven big expenditure projects.

The site needed to be remediated before putting anything on it. The shelter will need to be dismantled and the new concrete torn up so remediation can take place. This is so basic for brownfield sites – who’s running the show!?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
