State law helps Cook County expand immigrant legal defense fund – Center Square

The Illinois General Assembly created a path for the Cook County Public Defender’s Office to represent immigrants involved in removal proceedings in Cook County by passing House Bill 2790 in 2021. And early this year, state Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz filed House Bill 2436 to give the Cook County Board the authority to allow its public defender’s office to provide representation outside of Cook County.

Why does Preckwinkle think that all Cook County taxpayers want to pay for the legal defense of illegal aliens? All Cook County residents are not for this. Vote her out. She needs to start supporting US citizens.

This is mind-boggling. Our state and local governments are broke, yet these officials are spending money to keep people here who aren’t even supposed to be here.
