Stellantis battery plant gives Pritzker momentum to land more EV deals – Crain’s*

The state ponied up more than half a billion dollars to land Gotion. It hasn’t disclosed how large an incentive package it has offered to Stellantis. But it’s expected to be larger. Pritzker declined to comment on the amount. Stellantis hasn’t commented on the announcement of the new facilities, which was made by the United Auto Workers in connection with a tentative contract agreement Saturday.

Secret dealings using future taxpayer monies – something doesn’t seem legal about any of it.

The standard incentive under the Reimagining Electric Vehicles in Illinois Act is a tax credit available to Illinois automakers that retain employees as they transition to EV production is increased to 75% of their income tax at the statewide level and 100% of their income tax if they operate in an Underserved or Energy Transition Area.

The REV Illinois Act includes tax credits for income tax withholding, training costs, tax exemptions, and investment credits, as well as allowing local jurisdictions to reduce property taxes for EV projects.

I can’t imagine how this already sweet deal was made sweeter.

Why just the other day I read here an article that the Stellantis offer was something they could not walk away from and we all know the overall details of the Chinese plant making me think that Pritzker will spend the taxpayers’ very last dollar to pay a plant to be here. To him it is about headlines for future national elections and for the citizens it is just more tax money down the hole.

Maybe he or some family member will get a lot of Stellantis stock in exchange for the incentive package. This is good news for Belvidere with potentially 3,000 jobs and the new construction of the WalMart and Pillsbury cold storage facilities each over 1M sq. Ft. Also they are building and will build a hotel and other small projects at the I-90 Genoa Rd exit.
Plus if you are aware Toyota will have a solid state battery that can get 700-900 miles with a 10 minute charge.

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
