Stop pretending the BLM protests were peaceful – UnHerd

A police officer on foot patrol in Chicago’s heavily-black West Side remarked to me how perplexed she was by the lack of coverage of the damage in these neighbourhoods. Indeed, a simple drive around such parts of Chicago reveals a stunning number of boarded-up establishments, many of which appear like they will never return.

And the main perpetrators of this destruction — namely those who committed the most incendiary arson attacks — were, by many accounts relayed to me directly, white Left-wing activists.
BLM directly funnels donations to ActBlue
See here: What the hell is ActBlue? And why is it showing up on so many Democratic candidates’ campaign finance reports? And here: Fired-up liberals raise $1 billion on website for candidates

Unfortunately, Black communities and businesses are the scapegoats and sacrificial lambs for the ravenous parasites #maoistsnowflakes and the DNC.

The 2020 Marxist BLM Black Bloc Defeat Trump At All Cost Riots, not the BLM Protests, better describes the 2020 riots.

The 2020 riots are worse than the 1968 riots.

Talk to people who were in the USA during the 1968 and 2020 riots.

In 1968, the protestors had noble intentions for desegregation. These rioters in 2020 want RE-segregation. It’s disgusting.

Call “busing” noble? Or canceling the Space Program to subsidize people who already cannot feed themselves to have more children they can’t feed , noble?

1968 compared to 2020 mayor Daley gave the order shoot to kill, lot more people were killed and injured.

Daley’s shoot to kill orders were directed at arsonists, rightly so.

Early Sunday morning at about 4:00 am 13 people were shot at a gathering of about 200. What are 200 people doing at 4 am? Maybe waiting for early church services? Maybe they are very early for the Black Friday sales. Police say the gunman is armed and dangerous. Duh!!

Protesting is as American as apple pie. But what I saw in Chicago on Friday were not protestors. They were dressed in all black, with umbrellas (to mask their appearances from helicopters), enough rope to supply a hardware store, spray paint and mortars which were fired at police officers. Futhermore it appeared they were moving in coordination. Those people are not protesting, they’re domestic terrorists.

Two counterpoints:

First, there were peaceful protesters there, unfortunately the aggressors you mentioned did take over and outnumber them eventually.

Second, the police unit tasked with response is a unit that is being disbanded on July 23rd because of its paramilitary tactics. They were pissed off and looking for a fight. They let the instigators start the fight and they finished it.

Total bullshit scenario on everyone’s part.

Sure I’ll take the bait. So in your alternative universe, what should the cops have done when mortars were fired upon them? Offer them Girl Scout cookies? If you shoot mortars at a cop, they take an oath and it is their duty to restore order. What is the obsession with destructing monuments in a violent way? You and I can disagree on Christopher Columbus, but what is not up for debate is the tactics this antifa mob uses. It’s not acceptable. If you want a statue down there is a means to do that though proposals and discussions with… Read more »

Protestors do not destroy public or private property, rioters and looters do. Any “protestor” present where there is rioting and looting, and destruction of public property is no protestor, or they would not be there.

Where are these “peaceful protestors” offering to pay for the damages caused by such peaceful protests? If they were honest they would.

Yep, wow, the Police sure looked like they were ready and looking for a fight…with their bike helmets, short sleeved shirts and bicycles as the only protection from the flying objects. They looked like they were very prepared as they tried to find cover behind the monument. Alternate universe comment from USG below is correct…

Paramilitary tactics. Yeah…I didn’t see much of that from CPD on any of the video, although, after watching the behavior of the “protesters”…I would have cheered the CPD on.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
