A large group of young people, mostly juveniles, ripped through the South Loop on Sunday evening, looting a convenience store, storming a Dunkin, and fighting as they ran through the streets. It was the second time in days that groups of teens targeted the area along Roosevelt Road.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

40 out of 400. Well, it’s a start…. Almost as good as Chicago is when it comes to arresting someone for all of the armed robberies and carjackings and auto-thefts and burglaries and drive-by’s and murders we read about every week. Those are, what? Five out of a hundred crimes someone’s convicted – something like that. Even if they weren’t one of the 40 caught inside the store with stuff in their hands, it was still 400 teens who went along with a looting, rather than running away from one. Parents should take her advice about the kids. Maybe if they got disciplined earlier in life they would not do this.

Interesting, not a word in trib, st, etc? Where were the “violence interrupters”?
Be sure to watch the video way down near the bottom of the article. Total anarchy. Looks like not nearly enough cops and those that are there look like spectators. I can’t wait to see how many arrests were really made. And, as usual, no one wants to mention who the perpetrators are. So these situations just keep recurring and the problem will never be solved.
