A man needs to develop interests and hobbies early in life, that’s what men do. Then those interests grow or change into productive skills that the market will reward. If a boy is only into porn, drugs, sex, gaming or longing for the latest pair of sneakers, they will be adrift with no driving passion to “make” something out of wood, metal, software or intellect. First, many young black men have no positive male role model in the home (strike one). Second, many are growing up in a one income home, so they know affording college is unlikely (strike 2). The city has little or no money to address the issue because of pension obligations (strike 3). Chicago protects illegal immigrants, which compete for the low end jobs (strike 4). Chicago mandates a higher minimum wage which causes Businesses to automate and/or relocate out of the city (strike 5). Do I need to continue?
