Back in 2019 we purchased a washer/dryer in Madison WI for delivery two miles into IL. When I questioned the tax rate, I was told that IL collects tax from the store for all deliveries into IL.
Even back then IL’s tax tentacles reached over the WI/IL border.
Many individual stores do not charge Illinois sales tax. Stay away fram Amazon and the like buying directly from an online merchant that is often cheaper than Amazon to begin with anyway.
