Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Back in 2019 we purchased a washer/dryer in Madison WI for delivery two miles into IL. When I questioned the tax rate, I was told that IL collects tax from the store for all deliveries into IL.
Even back then IL’s tax tentacles reached over the WI/IL border.
Many individual stores do not charge Illinois sales tax. Stay away fram Amazon and the like buying directly from an online merchant that is often cheaper than Amazon to begin with anyway.
