Tax breaks for Bears punted to state legislature’s fall veto session – WBEZ (Chicago)

A $3 per-ticket surcharge has been proposed to help retire debt incurred by renovations at Soldier Field, which is owned by the Chicago Park District. State Rep. Kam Buckner said that’s good, but, “I worked for a pro sports team and we wrote a big check every single year to the City of Chicago and the county for an amusement tax. I think it’s important to also talk about the loss of that tax revenue from the amusement sales tax, the 9% cap in that space as well.”

This article improperly characterizes the detail about assessment freeze, makign it sound more like a vanilla TIF deal:
Moylan’s bill would freeze property values, which means the Bears would not pay more taxes as the Racecourse property value increases.”

Actually, it seeks to roll back the property assessment to the low, pre-inflation valuation of 3 years prior, before the triennial re-assessment which all properties in Cook County must undergo.
There are remedies under the law for Arlington Park property owners to appeal that assessment, other than special ‘friends’ deal’ from Springfield, which most other property taxpayers cannot access.

Moylan is pretty bad but at least he’s a typical corrupt old school machine union Democrat. Nearly all his money comes from unions. It’s not like his constituents ever donate money to his campaigns. He’s despicable as a person but at least you know what you’re getting. Crazy times we live in where the corrupt old school machine union Democrat to the insane progressives we have now in Springfield.
