Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I remember a while back Wirepoints praising UofC for its defense of free speech when many other universities were engaging in cancel culture, UofC was openly defying that trend in favor of Freedom of speech. They even published a policy paper on it, signed by faculty, and reported and praised here. In America the ultimate test of freedom of speech will be if speech that offends the powerful Jewish lobby will be allowed to continue. If they are students, withhold their grades and diplomas. Don’t give them credit for class work. Bring in the water cannons and canine units. Stop coddling the spoiled children.
