Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Why doesn’t JB let them roam through Chicago by themselves to give them a personal, up-close experience in a true sanctuary city? They could take a tour of the Obama library, the west side of city and then finish up by getting carjacked in River North.
This is like something out of the Onion. TX Democrats, some flying private, fly to IL, perhaps the most gerrymandered state in the country to protest gerrymandering. Will these folks hunker down strategizing (in a strip mall party office in Springfield?) or will they be seen in the wild in River North, Wrigkeyville, West Loop? If our beloved JB is providing logistical support, who is paying for whatever that is?
