Text of Illinois Gov. Pritzker’s State of the State and Budget Address

"In the age old fight between happy warriors and misery’s carnival barkers, we’ve shown that if we resolve to do it, happy warriors win every time. And we are winning."

Ever try to explain to someone who watches MSNBC that they sound just like someone who watches Fox, just on the opposite end of the spectrum? That’s what JB sounds like to me. Everyone on his side has fully bought into his Facebook talking points and there’s no rational argument that is going to make them change their minds in the least bit. He’s basically villainized dissention. You can’t go to a school or library board meeting as a dissenter, despite all the crazy, lest you be branded as a book burner or racist or whatever. It was tough 15… Read more »

Policy positions and arguments are formulated on Twitter. JB sounds like JoJoFromJerz, there’s no difference. Below are three tweets from JoJoFromJerz on Twitter in the past 24 hours. Her tweets are indistinguishable from JB’s rhetoric. She has 780,000 followers: https://mobile.twitter.com/JoJoFromJerz Republicans want to control which books your daughters can read & what classes they can take. They want to block their access to contraception & force them to give birth. They want them to report their menstrual data. But do go on about how they’re for “parents rights” won’t you. Republicans want our kids to pray in school & to… Read more »

You gotta’ hand it to the guy– he is pretty good at telling you not to believe what you see everyday with your own eyes. What an amazing head fake on what is really going on in Illinois. Not a single mention of out of control crime. No mention of second highest property taxes in the U.S. Forgot to mention that Illinois has the worst unemployment level in the Midwest. No mention of the pitiful math and reading proficiency statistics reported by his own agencies. How about the collapse of Michigan Avenue and LaSalle Street. Or what about the $10… Read more »

Exactly correct. I’ll be interested to see how obliging or critical the mainstream “journalists” are over all his blather and self-congratulatory harrumphey. Call him out? Give him a pass? Ignore it?

I truth, JB is the carnival exhibit. The amazing fat man whose leg broke under his enormous weight. Born of enormous wealth, but an adult with no real accomplishments, the citizens for Illinois have twice elected him as the leader the the state. I would act surprised, but they also elected Rod Blagoivich governor twice. A man of no accomplishments, and less character.

JB has the silver spoon, no a silver ladle, that he was born with framed over his bed

Since IL has a deep well of taxpayer money that gets deeper and deeper, it’s amazing what IL can accomplish! Never mind the taxpayers have been abused for so many years.

Yes, they’re resolving to do it, but the “it” is on the backs of already abused taxpayers.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
