Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

You gotta’ hand it to the guy– he is pretty good at telling you not to believe what you see everyday with your own eyes. What an amazing head fake on what is really going on in Illinois. Not a single mention of out of control crime. No mention of second highest property taxes in the U.S. Forgot to mention that Illinois has the worst unemployment level in the Midwest. I would act surprised, but they also elected Rod Blagoivich governor twice. A man of no accomplishments, and less character.

Since IL has a deep well of taxpayer money that gets deeper and deeper, it’s amazing what IL can accomplish! Never mind the taxpayers have been abused for so many years.
