The Chicago Teachers Union Chief Sends Her Son to Catholic School – Wall Street Journal

Ms. Gates’s son deserves a quality education, but so do his neighbors. With any luck this controversy will improve the odds of renewing the Invest in Kids program. But the real moral and political scandal remains the same: that thousands of Chicago’s children are locked into failing public schools as part of a political job-protection program for the teachers union.

You know you’re a fraud when the school you call racist and fascist is the school where you pay for your kid to get in

My parents sent me to a Catholic grammar school and a Catholic high school. The teachers were paid less than the public school teachers but I believe my teachers were more dedicated, strict, and caring. (I am not Catholic but a nondenominational Christian.)
For those parents who have the ability and schedule, homeschooling can also be an option.

If she was smart she would send her son to a private school OUT OF STATE. The first thing any student should be taught is how to get out of Illinois and better their lives.

Nothing new under the sun here. Public school teachers and administrators send their kids to private schools at a rate significantly higher than the public.

What I found remarkable about her reasons for sending her child to private school was that it was very compelling. Like most parents, she cares about her son and revealed – likely unwittingly – the downsides of sending a young black male into a non-selective Chicago public high school. And I hope the kid succeeds, including at soccer. Her comments make the case for school choice in a really persuasive way. Of course, it matters not to her that she has castigated others as racist for advocating for school choice. Her choice and comments go beyond hypocrisy, though. Brandon Johnson… Read more »

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
