The area is still a far cry from its peak period about 15 years ago, when the vacancy rate was 7%. The rate today is about 25%, according to local real-estate brokerage Stone Real Estate. But it is finally moving in the right direction, down slightly from 2023 when the number of empty storefronts peaked at 26%.
No way. Me and plenty of people I know have no intention of visiting the “Magnificent Mile” again. As for Chicago in general, it is a hard city to live in and it is no place to raise a family. Chicago is a haven for criminals and it is governed by corrupt, incompetent leaders.
I was born in Chicago. I did not choose this city. After you experience the crime firsthand and research all the problems–the pension crisis, the lead pipes, the traffic congestion, the lack of job opportunities for the private sector–why would you choose this city?

Hub cap shops, nail salons and fortune tellers should bring in those needed tax dollars!
Not in your lifetime. The people with money are moving (being chased) out of the City. The gangs are the only shoppers left, and they shop at midnight hours. Only going to get worse, much worse.

See. All is well. Chicago has solved its crime and retail problem. Pinhead’s a genius. Get some stupe in the media to tout a 1% drop in vacancy and you have the makings of a boom. And Chicagoans will buy it. Most are so indoctrinated and institutionalized to the abuse they receive daily that they vociferously cling to the Bears, White Sox, Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks as good enough circuses to satisfy their low standards. Someone should write about the institutionalization.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
Maybe if they arrest and lock up criminals?
Let’s not talk crazy talk Deb. (sarc)
