Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Mug Mile is getting worse and worse. Thugs mug on this mile.
Has our leadership learned nothing? Does Lori not remember the State St. Mall of the 80’s and 90’s! It was equitable, but a complete disaster!
Pedestrian Malls were all the rage in the 1960s and 1970s as a way to save decaying downtowns — when new suburban malls were eating their lunch.
The State Street Mall ended up being a bus-only bust — no one wanted to ride transit to State Street when you could drive to a mall instead.

The other pedestrian mall in the Chicago area was Oak Park’s Lake Street Mall — the State Street Mall’s slutty little sister. Lake Street Mall was also a failure as well

“A report commissioned from ULI Chicago that recommends remaking the Mag Mile into a pedestrian-friendly promenade, with wider sidewalks, extended green spaces, ”
So, no cars or buses on Michigan Ave.? Because I don’t see how they can widen sidewalks while adding green space without encroaching on the traffic lanes.
Lefties hate cars and don’t care if car transit becomes more difficult. They want to make car travel onerous so that you take public transportation. All the widened city bike lanes that reduce car lanes are proof.
The funniest part, Michigan Avenue already has wide sidewalks that have never been an impediment to anyone.
You can put put more greenery and wider sidewalks in Austin or Englewood, and you’re not going to make it a better pedestrian experience.
Mary,
democraps do not live in reality. They just make it up as they go along.
West Detroit here we come!
Wow, reads like a dirge…
Michigan Avenue is done — now it is ground zero for anti-social crime-thug behavior and violence without consequences.
I would love to hear what condo owners east of Michigan Ave. and north of the river now think of their neighborhood.
Their neighborhood now is West Palm Beach

Yowza is right! Looks like it can drop a lot further based on the historical averages. I hope people who just bought don’t think that they got a deal LOL.
Thanks for the link.
That’s gone down faster than my retirement account, lol…!!!
This is freakin insane, as the rest of the country is up 40% in 2 years this once nice neighborhood is down 19%. Even while nice IL suburbs are up like 15% .
