Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. They really believe they no longer have to worry about rational thought in the electorate. I hope they are wrong, but fear they are correct in that assessment.
I’m all for freedom of speech, but this is closer to yelling fire in a crowded theater. All of us will have to be brave and challenge things this summer to get our freedoms back. The stores, restaurants, libraries, malls even walking down the street… challenge them by not wearing a mask, let them have to truly enforce it, they will not, freedom won back. Same for the internet, challenge the “science” that says you have to mask up when you enter a restaurant, but when you get to your “Magic chair” ten feet away all masks come off?
