Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Not one mention of the most powerful force pushing race in public education – the teacher union. Moving beyond this article if the constitutional amendment (Amendment One) at the top of the November 8, 2022 ballot passes, the teacher unions will likely attempt to negotiate a wide array of race and gender items into collective bargaining agreements. At a place like New Trier, CRT is merely virtue signaling. The beneficiaries are teachers and administrators who feel better about themselves as progressives. But it doesn’t advance in any way the educational prowess of students. Of course, at a place like New Trier the students and their will make their way notwithstanding the foolishness.
