Most people don’t even know what an interurban is. They were a cheap outgrowth of the streetcar lines that every self-respecting hamlet seemed to run. They ran these ‘downtown’ streetcar lines between towns, usually on the side of then-primitive roads. Some outgrew their low-cost side-road dirt track beginnings and became much more. For you kids out there, did you know that you once upon a time could board a train on the Loop’s Adams & Wabash elevated station and step off that same train 90 minutes later in downtown Milwaukee with 38 trains daily between those points to choose from?… Read more »
