Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. There should be no such thing as medical debt. The waste , fraud, abuse, and incorrect delivery of true healthcare, are the causes. Forgiving this debt does nothing to fix the system that causes it.
Innovative healthcare, and true food delivery, utilizing tech, and giving people a choice out of the oppressive system we currently have, and bankrupting the current players, ie big pharma, big healthcare, will be what turns this around.
So why even pay your bills anymore
As a resident of will county, why are my tax dollars being handed out? Got debt , get on a payment plan. Probably has nothing to do with 3/4 of the east side of Joliet being little Mexico and mostly illegals! Keep handing it out and they’ll keep coming- meanwhile the roads are trashed and crime is out of control in will county, but that must be fake news too
Will county is turning into another Cook County, crime, and most of all exuberant property taxes that are absolutely ridiculous especially in Lockport Township
And Manhattan, and Plainfield and Shorewood and .. basically any decent, crime free place in Will County to live. Joliet, Romeoville and Bolingbrook are still a bargain.
True
Note that collar counties went for Harris. The amount of illegal immigration that has flooded Illinois for the last 40 years has consequences.
That’s certainly part of it. The other part is the Big 10 to Chicago pipeline over the last three or four decade brought hundreds of thousands of college students and graduates to Chicago, who move to the suburbs after having children. College educated white women tend to vote Democrat and there are a lot of them in the suburbs. That combined with legal and illegal immigration – and the brutal and outright war against conservatives in the Chicago suburbs – has caused many of the remaining conservatives to flee.
I guess that’s why St. Joe’s Hospital in Joliet now sees a change in ownership by one conglomerate or another every few years. Those that work there claim that the hospital is owed BILLIONS by the state of IL.
Pritzker just bought 52,745 residents votes with other peoples money.
Is it 100% fed COVID-ARPA funds that are being used for medical debt forgiveness and not Illinois taxpayer $? Neither this article or Crain article (https://www.chicagobusiness.com/health-care/illinois-begins-canceling-medical-debt-residents) states what is the source of debt funding relief? Poor reporting
All funds from government are tax dollars . Why can government take tax dollars and give it to private entities to settle individuals debts. This should bother everyone.
That’s an avg of $1,365 per resident. That’s not that far off from the cost of one monthly premium payment to O’Bamacare.
