To Win or Not To Win in Illinois? – RealClear Politics

"The issues driving voters this year are inflation, crime, corruption, taxes, and schools. These are all Republican issues. A majority of Illinois voters are ready to vote Republican on these issues this year, if we offer a candidate who can stand out in the Republican crowd."

“Democrats believe Irvin is an existential threat to their dominance in Illinois, and they believe Pritzker matches up better with Bailey. So, it’s as simple as this: Vote for Richard Irvin! He’s the answer to the Illinois electoral conundrum because he has a track record of attracting voters who support our ideas and are uncomfortable with our candidates.” I love 560 AM but the two hosts who spend all their energy fighting and disparaging Irvin are making a huge mistake. The three most popular governors in the country are republican RINO governors in blue states. The anti-Irvin crowd wrongly believes… Read more »

Right? That’s why Republicans should only vote for REAL republicans like Bailey. We may only get 40% of the vote in the general with Bailey but at least we will own the libs.

Could you explain further? I don’t understand how we will own the libs with only 40% of the vote?

We just drove to Panama City FL. Took the back roads through Illinois. Bailey signs literally everywhere. I’m voting for Bailey, following the wisdom of farmers. Irvin is really democrat. Can’t remember any mention of 2nd amendment or pro life in any of his ads if there was any.

Richard Irvin would pair perfectly with Lori Lightfoot, Kim Fox, Toni Preckwinkle and the mayors of Evanston and Oak Park.
Irvin would destroy Illinois further!

Multiple friends and family member have reached out to me to express my concern about my support for Irvin. While they admit Irvin might be the best chance to beat JB in Nov, they have a visceral dislike of the guy, and don’t want to vote for him. No excitement. As a result of these talks with friends and family, and negative ads, I will admit, my support for Irvin is wavering, I can be persuaded to change my vote in the next two weeks. (Dam you to hell Dan Proft!) Apparently I’m not the only undecided. I saw a… Read more »

“Well, consider that one million more people voted for Joe Biden than for President Trump, and 700,000 more people voted for Pritzker than for former Gov. Bruce Rauner.””

700,000 voters that didn’t vote in 2014 for a millionaire but voted for the first time in 2018 for a billionaire……things that make you go hmmmmm…..

A tribune article the day or two after the election found it almost unbelievable that 700,000 new voters – whom had never voted in an IL gubernatorial election – appeared seemingly out of thin air to vote for Pritzker in 2018. The turnout for the 2018 election was the highest and most of any Illinois gubernatorial election in my life time. I confirmed this by looking at every Illinois gubernatorial election in Wikipedia. It just doesn’t make any sense. Was it really a blue wave year like none other? 2018 wasn’t out of the ordinary around the rest of the… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
