Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Excellent column, Charles. D.I.E. has gone too far and staff for this artificial and divisive program should be eliminated … the sooner the better.
George Anastaplo is a sterling example of courage and resolve.
Also, my hat’s off to my fellow citizens who stood strong and refused to be cowed into an experimental vaccine, many of whom lost their livelihoods.
Brave citizens!
I had never heard Anastaplo’s story before this. He is a genuine hero. If Chicago’s silly monument committee is still looking for subjects for new statues, he is it.
