Charles Lipson recounts the remarkable story of the brave Illinoisan who challenged loyalty oaths and today's Illinoisans who betray what he fought for.
I had never heard Anastaplo’s story before this. He is a genuine hero. If Chicago’s silly monument committee is still looking for subjects for new statues, he is it.

Excellent column, Charles. D.I.E. has gone too far and staff for this artificial and divisive program should be eliminated … the sooner the better.
George Anastaplo is a sterling example of courage and resolve.
Also, my hat’s off to my fellow citizens who stood strong and refused to be cowed into an experimental vaccine, many of whom lost their livelihoods.
Brave citizens!
