There’s more to it that just property taxes.Indiana always talks about how low their state income tax rates is but always forget the county option income tax which can amount to a total burden of 6% in the highest counties. Some legislatures spend money like it’s their own, others spend it like it someone else’s. Rockford has a much higher rate than Winnebago county in general. My rental has an effective rate of 3.25% in the city limits but there are pockets of county with a lower rate in the city. Years ago the city of Rockford tried to annex the county part of the city but failed.
