The transit governance changes tie into a larger, ongoing trend of the Chicago mayor’s power steadily weakening since the days of Mayor Richard M. Daley and the Democratic machine. Some of that has been at the hands of an emboldened City Council, some from Gov. JB Pritzker and other Springfield leaders.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
