Apparently, lalapalooza is a privately owned, for-profit event owned by Live Nation Entertainment,
which took over prior owner Capitol Sports Entertainment (C3 Presents) .
It may be legal for a municipality or park district to use public funds (or public resources like police) to benefit profit margins of gig producers. Devil’s in details when considering what is “legal”.
But until private citizens start watchdogging whether civil laws were violated in specific execution of assigning public resources to privately owned profits, the beat will go on.

No, This is the Fault of the Mayor and the organizations who have tied the hands of the Police and will not let them do the job they were hired to do.
I agree that its the mayors fault and Foxx also. How many criminals were let loose and committed crimes soon afterwards? The police’s hands are tied. I think the mayor thinks she can do no wrong. Bigger question is. Why are there so many shootings. More shootings/deaths in Rockford and Beloit the last few days. Belvidere just got one of those large military vehicles for free and will rehab it for about $73K. Police dept’s have become militarized the last few years. Why? What are they anticipating. Is it good preplanning or are they expecting social upheaval at any time.
I have worked this CPD detail in the past. There are tactical and gang units assigned from all over the city, as well as additional district officer and detectives. You know what they do all day? They chase around the 200 or so miscreants who don’t have tickets and circle the perimeter trying to hop the fences and get in for free. Why do they do this? Because the PRIVATE event refuses to hire enough security to secure the fest site, so CPD does it for free.
