Two months to go and Chicago already has seen more murders than in eight of the last 10 years – Chicago Sun-Times*

Of the city’s 72 neighborhoods, 50 are seeing either more homicides or about the same number as last year. Many struggling neighborhoods continue to bear the brunt of violence: Austin, North Lawndale, Auburn-Gresham, West Garfield Park, West Pullman, South Shore, Roseland, Near West Side, South Lawndale and Washington Heights.

They just do not care, for people keep voting for them. They are daring the good people of Chicago to push back in a meaningful way. They know it won’t happen.

Where do these numbers stand when compared to the Chicago gang wars of the 1920’s, 1929 in particular?

Ever hear of the St. Valentines Day Massacre?

Why, I’ll bet that they aren’t even close…

The murder (and likely shooting) rate of the 1920’s was significantly lower than the 1990’s and today using the murders per 100,000 figure:

http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/2156.html

Year Homicide Rate
1870 2.6
1880 5.4
1890 7.0
1900 6.0
1910 9.2
1920 10.5
1930 14.6
1940 7.1
1950 7.9
1960 10.3
1970 24.0
1980 28.7
1990 32.9
2000 22.1
2010’s (not computed)
2020’s God Help Us!

The 2020’s are on track to be the worst decade in the history because the number of murders is up but the population is 1920’s levels.

Also in the 20’s through 40’s the black communities were much better off stronger families, actual businesses. Segregated yes, but are not the blacks still segregated today? Yes they are. People then had more common sense and morals as well.

Fence the areas in and go full ‘Running Man.’ Redirect the problem to be it’s own solution.

The city says murders for October 2021 were down. So far in 2021 there have been 41 more homicides to date in 2021 than 2020. Somebody’s got some splainin’ to do.

So you’re telling me that community based violence interruption doesn’t work?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
