U of Illinois gives ‘highest standards in public service’ award to…wait for it…Anthony Fauci – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

It’s truly difficult to understand how anybody, particularly in a governmental affairs unit of a major university, plus a U.S. Senator, can be this detached from reality.

Fauci accepting his award.

The Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois recently awarded its annual Paul H. Douglas Award to Anthony Fauci. The award supposedly recognizes “a person who made a significant contribution to the practice and understanding of ethical behavior and fair play in government” and “promoted respect for the highest standards of public service.”

Few major figures in America fit that description less than Fauci. The award was presented by Senator Dick Durbin, who praised a benevolent version of the “Fauci Effect.” I will get back to the true Fauci Effect, but first a recap of Fauci’s errors, deceit, megalomania and outright malevolence displayed during the pandemic.

Start with this list from Slate, which is normally friendly toward the government establishment: Fauci, says Slate, was wrong about masks and asymptomatic transmission early in the pandemic. He was also wrong about vaccines stopping transmission. He was dismissive about the possibility of the lab origins of the virus….”

But that’s just the start. It was Fauci who originated the infamous “15 days to slow the spread” claim regarding lockdowns in March 2020, which was endlessly repeated but catastrophically wrong. As late as September 2020, Fauci opposed school openings until the virus was “under control.” School closings are now widely regarded as among the biggest mistakes ever in modern healthcare science. But Fauci publicly ridiculed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for opening schools, claiming that premature re-opening “likely” led to widespread student infection.

He remains an unabashed supporter of the vaccine. There had never been an mRNA-approved vaccine before, but for Covid one was brought to market at “warp speed.” Suffice it to say that extreme controversy remains over the vaccine’s side effects and efficacy, doubts about which Fauci entirely dismissed.

The case that the National Institute of Health funded gain of function research at the Wuhan lab, which Fauci denied under oath, is now largely settled. It did, and the lab as the source of the pandemic is now widely accepted.

Regarding masks, Fauci has essentially admitted he lied when he initially said they weren’t needed, saying he did so because they were in short supply at the time. He later endorsed masking, with minimal if any evidence. He also admitted that the six-foot distancing guidance to guard against Covid, which he helped promote, had no scientific basis.

Most vicious was Fauci’s smear campaign against experts who questioned his pronouncements. Those who supported strategies more targeted on the most vulnerable or who acknowledged the role of natural immunity were dismissed by Fauci as “fringe.” They weren’t fringe, but Fauci’s campaign largely succeeded in stifling debate.

Anthony Fauci: “I represent science.”

He responded to criticism by saying, “It’s easy to criticize, but they’re really criticizing science because I represent science. That’s dangerous.” [Emphasis added.]

That’s perhaps his greatest sin — a betrayal of the scientific method itself, which is supposed to rest on endless questioning and improvement. A physician and chief medical officer of the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance put it this way: “Fauci’s legacy is one of narcissism and power. The glorification of his massive ego trumped any scientific or medical data. His policies were giveaways to the pharmaceutical industry, which helped burnish his image and crush dissent.”

In his remarks presenting the Douglas Award to Fauci, Senator Durbin said, “I suspect that one of the most meaningful of those tributes may be a phenomenon some have dubbed “The Fauci Factor:” a marked increase—since the pandemic—in medical students saying that they want to spend at least part of their careers as public health researchers.

If that version of the Fauci Effect comes true, we should hope those new epidemiologists are inspired to display the integrity and judgement Fauci lacked.

The bigger Fauci Effect is already real: “Experts” of all sorts are now suspect, particularly if they are in government, and Fauci is a major reason. For that, and only that, we should thank Anthony Fauci.

Shame on Institute of Government and Public Affairs for not recognizing him for that.

They buried all the negative articles about Fauci but I was able to find this one. https://www.aier.org/article/fauci-was-duplicitous-on-the-aids-epidemic-too/
Just like covid Fauci was a big promoter of finding an aids vaccine and wasn’t too focused on treatment. Took 50 years to get an aids vaccine.

The villain doctor in the move Dallas Buyers Club was based on ‘Dr’ Fauci. The took all the things he did and attributed them to the character in the movie. Snopes rates this as ‘unproven’ which means it’s 100% true LOL. Fauci, because he’s in his 80’s, took his GRIDs (look it up) playbook – the only play book he knows – and applied it to COVID. Contract tracing kind of works for GRIDs like “how many dudes did you bang at the bathhouse in LA on Tuesday night” but works terrible for COVID…especially with privacy laws, I kept getting… Read more »

I’m old enough to remember Dr Fauci from the early 1980’s , when he pushed the hysteria that AIDS was going to become an epidemic in the heterosexual population, and we would all die!

His involvement in COVID made me pretty sure it was just another hysteria right from the start. Masks and contact tracing will save us! Billions of $$ spent on CDC and NIH over decades, and that was the solution? Insanity.

We all know that not a single person will be held responsible. No one will lose his/her job, much less go to jail for their absolute abdication of responsibility. Cuomo killed 10000+ seniors for cryin out loud. CA arrested a guy for SUPing by himself. Whether their actions were ignorant or intentional makes no difference. It’s equally reprehensible. BTW, a box of expired Covid tests was delivered to my class this week for distribution. The accompanying letter stated that one or more people in my class tested positive, and that CPS strongly encourages everyone to test and mask for ten… Read more »

Let me guess, University administration also provided airfare, hotel, meals, and purple ribbon award to this medical malpractice evil dwarf. Five years from now, Fauci will be in same category as Mengele.

Once the vaccine became available, vaccine mandates were the worst. Not sure whether Fauci had anything directly to do with that.

Fauci lied, hid the truth, stifled those who presented any other view than his, caused deaths by denying origin and gain of function use. as of alum of U off I, it is embarrassing, and disgusting as an American. Please post correction if I am wrong.

What burns me up is that nothing was ever mentioned about building up our own immune systems. We have an innate and adaptive where the first is a rapid response to a pathogen and the other a long term memory type of immune response. Nothing was ever mentioned by Fauci or Birks about Vit D-B12-zinc-probiotics/etc to build our immune systems. Here is an article on B12 somewhat long but just skim thru the basics and read the conclusion at the bottom. How many lives would have spared by getting these recommendations to supplement and getting these essential nutrients from food?… Read more »

The begining of the destruction of our country. It all goes hand in hand with what they did (the lies) and are still doing!
If you remember Florida (and some Red States) pretty much ignored all the hype and survived better than the Blue States.

This is completely consistent with JB and his utter abuse of “declared” emergency and executive order…

AF is a a charlatan who deserves to rot for his hypocrisy. He is the antithesis of a real scientist and that the bozos on the left are unwilling to face this, amongst so many other realities just highlights the gap between the political left and normal, common sense based folks….

“Tony Fauci makes a point of saying the PCR COVID test is useless and misleading when the test is run at 35 cycles or higher. A positive result, indicating infection, cannot be accepted or believed. The FDA says run the test up to 40 cycles, in order to determine whether the virus is there. This is the crime in a nutshell.” – Jon Rappoport

U of I was on the forefront of the bogus COVID testing and some of the other propaganda during COVID. They were financially on the take. These institutions have completely lost their minds. I would not even send my children to these mental institutions today or at least send them to a University they can commute to so they are not under their thumb 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Just as important, no public accounting of the many $M’s the Pritzker’s made off the false testing and pandemic. How many days of closure and executive fiat did Gov Pritzker and his Democrat mob impose on the people of IL? Complete malevolence.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
