U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, area mayors stress sustainability in renewed push for south suburban airport – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

Environmental groups and farmers alike have raised concerns about the potential impact of operating a cargo airport and warehouses near Peotone to allow the Will County area to cash in on the increased demand of fast shipping from companies such as Amazon. But the passage of two bills over the past two legislative sessions have renewed the hopes of government officials who see the project as a generator of opportunity.

I recall the land around this airport boondoggle of boondoggles is owned by many of our least favourite Illinois politicians. Been so long they want to cash out.

The only ones that will benefit from this airport are the same types that will benefit from Gotion . Once it’s built and the union goes away, leaving a few menial jobs to be filled, it will gather dust like the one built southeast of St. Louis that never met it’s touted potential.

the south, southwest Black burbs are a disaster. Kelly and those mayors have nothing to offer or give hope to taxpayer/homeowners. Especially with COVID $bucks$ running out…..so of course it’s easy, cheep politics, to try and revive the dead horse South Suburban Airport…..PATHETICALLY DESPERATE!!!

The south burbs will continue to be a great
Disaster, prime examples, Dolton and Harvey. Will the south suburban Airport
Help them? Rockford airport is doing a great job of increasing the capacity for cargo flights and the airlines love it.

Have they given up on extending CTA rapid transit rail service to the south and southeast suburbs? That idea had prosperity written all over it!

I am stuck on this crazy idea that to have an airport you need an airline. No airline has shown any interest in going to there. None ever has.

We don’t need another airport, give it up already just another cash cow project.

There is already an airport on the site at 276th and Kedzie with a 5,000 ft long runway. The SSA is a political money hustle to provide connected politicians with easy money. If they do succeed in grifting money for this insane project it will take decades to build and once completed will provide about 20 jobs. At the cost of billions of dollars and against the wishes of Beecher and Peotone residents. Bult Field C56.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
