U.S. Rep. Sean Casten: It’s time for Joe Biden to pass the torch – Chicago Tribune*

"But politics, like life, isn’t fair. And as long as this election is instead litigated over which candidate is more likely to be held accountable for public gaffes and 'senior moments,' I believe that Biden is not only going to lose but is also uniquely incapable of shifting that conversation."

Casten and Garcia and Quigley jump off the going nowhere band wagon to kick the dead horse Biden they expected to pull them. They care only about keeping their office. Where does Illinois find such leaders?

“I believe that Biden is not only going to lose”

WHY DO PEOPLE SAY THIS OUT LOUD? Why would politicians tell potential voters “your candidate will lose”? He should be saying, Joe Biden won once before, and he can win again, but we need the strongest candidate possible, and that’s not Joe Biden. These are career politicians and they have gone off the deep end with doom and gloom and are apocalyptic.

It’s a fair point but you can’t run a campaign on “save democracy” while also disregarding your very own voters that chose Biden. So while your line is more safe in case Biden runs it isn’t a real reason to disregard the voters. They are trying to make Biden so uncomfortable and unable to raise money that he will have no choice but to “voluntarily” decline the nomination. Will he? I don’t see it unless there is some behind the scenes threat, perhaps showing him the votes to enact the 25th amendment. Withdraw and save face or don’t and leave… Read more »

You got a point there, Casten might be worried himself. Casten may have won his last race by 9 points but its only 24,000 votes, and if Sleepy Joe can’t get people to vote for him, it’s going to be a problem down ballot for politicians like him, in ‘swing’ suburban districts that can’t rely on the massive cheating that occurs in inner-city and urban areas. I’ve read that organizations are having a difficult time recruiting Democrats to knock on doors, register people to vote (in plain English, ballot harvesting!) because there’s simply no enthusiasm for Joe Biden. And with… Read more »

The Dems know that Joe can’t win. I don’t know what their goal is now though. Do they know that the Biden Administration has been such a debacle that they need to run Kamala so she can lose and forever be relegated to the background, clearing 2028 for the cast of governors they think are so great? Do they really think they can win this year?

Joe and his backers (the deep state, so to speak) won’t resign because they know they’re going to win regardless of the vote totals. They stole the election once and they’ll steal it again. That’s why he and his people are refusing to back down despite bad polling. They’re not counting on a wish and a prayer; they’re counting on hundreds of thousands of illegitimate ballots to swing the totals. Joe knows, that just like Trump, he doesn’t need to win the popular vote, he needs to win the electoral college. He only needs, based on last election’s totals, 40,000… Read more »

I fear what you describe is entirely possible, but all these defectors in his own party saying he can’t win are making a big mistake if it happens. I think it would make the cheating incredibly difficult to ignore. I don’t see a good ending if Joe somehow stays in and then wins.

I think that is why the push to get out Slojo. If he miraculously win, everyone knows it is a steal. Put in someone else and that person wins, only about half the people will know it is a steal.

The defectors are stupid enough to believe the Big Lie: the Big Lie being that the 2020 election wasn’t stolen. Republicans know it and so do Biden’s people.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
