Energy prices falling? What? My Nicor gas bill for Nov/Dec was the highest it’s been in at least two years, that’s only as far back as the online system goes, and I feel like it’s the largest bill I’ve paid to them.

it’s going to be a long, cold winter. Look at what’s coming next week and beyond. Bitter cold, not going above freezing for weeks.

This is what is coming next. It’s going to be $500 a month to heat a fully insulated 3 bedroom/2 bath suburban home. Gas bills are going to break many households already on the edge.

As we all take cold showers, we can think to ourselves, “WE SACRIFICE FOR UKRAINE!”

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
