Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Illinois will lose TWO congressional seats. The Democrats will be frantic to save their own but won’t have enough population to pack and crack.
They’re totally going to gerrymander Republicans to lose two seats, even if it means making one long district that connects Markham to Marion. D’s will then control 13 of the 16 seats giving Rebublicans only 3. That means D’s will control 82% of the senate seats in a state that went 41% for Trump. How Kind and Equitable of Democrats to give Republicans 18% of the house delegation! Now that’s gerrymandering! Why would they ever allow for fair maps with gerrymandering this complete?
